Josh Price with Bear at Candylust Studios, Brooklyn, NY, for the MOTN book photo shoot!

Today, over at www.MagicalWords.net, I talk about how I've taken my training in casting shows and applied it to casting the characters in my books for photo shoots for book covers.

And yes...there are GREAT pics to see!

So head on over there and see some of the first shots for my new book, Mark of the Necromancer, along with pictures from shoots on the Windfire series you've never seen before!

Falling Upwards - Over at Magical Words today!

You're thinking...WTF is falling upwards!!!???

Well, here...

“…then you can start to just fail. That’s what it’s about. It’s about doing it wrong, doing it wrong, doing it wrong, then doing it better, and doing it slightly better, then wrong, wrong, wrong, then doing it slightly accurate, doing it more accurately, and then doing it right. You never get there (he means perfection). You’re just always failing better. Falling upwards, as someone once described it.”  - Benedict Cumberbatch

I think that explains the gist, yes? Head on over to www.MagicalWords.net today to see more on why this is important to me currently...for even published authors fail...we fail a lot more than you realize...but good can come of it. See how! Here's the direct link:

Mark of the Necromancer ARC Winners!

ALAS! The time is here!

I drew the three winners from those who posted about #ReadOrWriteAnywhere on Twitter or reposted my Facebook links (Surprise! That wasn't announced, it was an added bonus!) of the ARC of Mark of the Necromancer and the following three people won:
  • Sean Chou (@seanchou)
  • Melissa McArthur-Gilbert (@mcarther_me)
  • Margaret McGraw (@MargaretSMcGraw)
However, since there is a chance Melissa, who is an editor, will be doing one of the edits on this book, it seems odd to have her win a copy. LOL! So I drew a fourth name just in case...and that person is...(*drum roll*)
  • David Tomlinson (a Facebook re-poster! Woot!)
Are you curious of how I drew the names? Well, it's not the best quality (due to lighting and an old phone) but HERE is the video I had my roommate shoot of me (and my dog, Kadin) drawing the names.

ALSO...in case you'd like to see any of the videos of the photo shoots I've previously done, you can go HERE!

Winners, please email me at tamsinlsilver@gmail.com and let me know the best E-book format to send you the book in. For example, if you have a Kindle, it'd be a MOBI file. If you have a Nook, it'd be a E-pub file...etc.

I am planning to send these out at the top of August...or maybe early, like July 26th, since that's my Birthday. :)

Anyway...again, thanks for participating and remember...READ OR WRITE ANYWHERE all the time! Encourage kids to read and write even when they're not in school!

Until next time...

Tamsin :)

Convention Worth - Over at Magical Words today!

Convention Worth (aka the Monetary Gain vs. Loss Ratio)

Moffat on making money for writing

EVERY con is different...and you won't know if you (or rather, if you and your merchandise, be they books, comics, art, etc.) fit that convention until you go. Once you do, you must figure out if it was worth your time...but it's not just about how much money you make...here, let me explain further, over at www.MagicalWords.net .

Here's the direct link:

ARC Winners will be listed TOMORROW!

Real quick...

Due to plane delays that equated to life delays, the plan is to draw the three winners of the Mark of the Necromancer ARCs TONIGHT...via video...and post them tomorrow on here, Facebook, and Twitter!

Sorry for the delay! We can blame the rain, LaGuardia Airport, and an exhaustion that consumed me like catching mono. The last energy I had was spent writing my bi-weekly blog post...which reminds me...

If you want fun stuff to read today, head over to my post on Magical Words!

See you tomorrow!

Win an ARC of Mark of the Necromancer!

Hey there, everyone!

In honor of the beginning of ConCarolinas (opening later today, May 29th) and the #ReadOrWriteAnywhere Campaign (which has been in full swing since May 22nd an goes until the end of May), I'm announcing something BIG that I've NEVER done before. You ready?

You can win one of three advanced reader copies (ARC) of Mark of the Necromancer! That's right! The book doesn't come out until this fall...but you could have a copy in your hot little (or big) hands by August!

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!
Each winner will ALSO get a free copy of my new, Historical Fantasy short,
The Curse of Scáthach, right away!
(PLUS a high resolution JPEG of the amazing cover by Alexis Daria, revealed this past Monday)

SO...how can you get in on this? It's REALLY easy! Check out below!

TWITTER #MOTN CONTEST!

FOUR WAYS TO ENTER:

1) For each time you repost one of my tweets on Twitter that includes the hashtag, #ReadOrWriteAnywhere, your name goes in the hat once. For example, if you re-post three of them, your name goes in the hat three times.

2) For each time you tweet about reading or writing, being sure to include the hashtag #ReadOrWriteAnywhere AND my twitter handle (@tamsinsilver) so I see it, your name goes in the hat FIVE TIMES!

3) To get your name put in TEN TIMES all at once, post a tweet encouraging others to check out the Read Or Write Anywhere Campaign! Be sure to list the #ReadOrWriteAnywhere hashtag, the link to the YA Chick's page (here's a short version of it: http://is.gd/ZFhvfn), and tag my twitter handle (@tamsinsilver) so I see it!

4) Last but not least, you can get your name put in the hat FIFTEEN TIMES in one fell swoop by tweeting about THIS #MOTN CONTEST! Be sure to use the #ReadOrWriteAnywhere hashtag, include a link to this blog post, and mention my twitter handle (@tamsinsilver) so I see your tweet!

NOTE: If you are afraid I won't see your post, or you don't have room in your tweet for my twitter handle, you can use the hashtag, #MOTN.

That's it! It's pretty simple! But the Read Or Write Anywhere Campaign, you can win an ARC of this book:

Note it says out the summer of 2015, that is now the fall of 2015 due to the time I spent writing The Curse of Scáthach. However, I wanted you to see the synopsis!

HOW AND WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I WON?

On June 2nd, the day I am finally home from the convention, I will compile the names into the hat and then I will beg my roommate (or neighbor) to video me drawing three names out it. I will then post the video and names on my blog, Facebook, and Twitter!

That blog post will explain how the winners can get their email addresses to me so I can get the short story to them immediately AND the ARC to them this summer. YAY!

So good luck, and I'll be looking for your tweets while I'm at ConCarolinas! Remember, you only have today, Saturday, and Sunday to enter...so get those fingers and thumbs a-movin'!

Best,

The The Curse of Scáthach Cover Reveal!

First off...HUGE props to Alexis Daria, the artist who created the front and back cover for my short story! This looks so GREAT! Anyone who can take me giving basic ideas for what the cover should convey, do a sketch based on it, then take the pictures I send and create this awesomeness deserves a whole hell of a lot more than I can give her. Folks, if you ever need book cover work...this gal is fantastic! I really cannot say enough good things about her or her work. Thank you for making such a great cover, AGAIN!

Note: Alexis is the artist who did the hand drawn cover for Heroes Square, another short story I have available online.

So...without further ado...here are the high-resolution, color versions for the jacket of The Curse of Scáthach.

This story will be available for a 99 cent download after ConCarolinas has come to a close.
Hear that CC gang, you are getting this kick ass western fantasy FIRST!

Have a great day, everyone! Happy Memorial Day!!!

Tamsin :)
